Ubud. Bali. ____ again!

  • You know you are in Ubud when you see the women go around placing the small baskets with flowers and rice and incents to please to spirits.
  • You know you are in Ubud when you have the watch where you put your foot on the pavement so you do not step into a hole.
  • You know you are in Ubud when you hear the sounds of 100`ds of frogs from the rice field at night.
  • You know you are in Ubud when you get asked if you want a taxi every 50 meter (and very rear if you want cheap women).
  • You know you are in Ubud when you get chased by barking dogs every night you go home after dark.
  • You know you are in Ubud when you have to change your alarm clock sound to no animal sound since it blend in with the natural animal sounds.
  • You know you are in Ubud when every second store sells paintings or other art.
  • You know you are in Ubud when you regularly see people go around with their yoga matt rolled up on their back.
  • You know you are in Ubud when you get amazing Bali food in lots of restaurants.

This is a pretty fucking good life. After been out eating and listening to some caribien jazz/salsa at the Laughing Buddha bar I found a good chair outside my room listening to 1224 or so frogs from the rise field, having some vine and some pringles, good life indeed.

Not so happy about the animal sounds in the morning, mostly the rosters that are waking me up, way to early every day, but I have managed to sleep past it a few days as well. The days in Ubud have been nice, but I must also admit I get a bit bored of doing nothing than walk the streets, looking and not buying anything since I did my shopping in Singapore. So I eat and read, eat and read some more, staying by the pool at the guesthouse (which is amazing to have access too). I was here in Ubud last year as well, for several days, so I have done most of the sights and some rice field walks, looked at the scary and rude monkeys in the Monkey forest.

Magic Mushroom

Have been at the Laughing Buddha bar most nights, since they have some good bands playing there, jazz and blues, and it is all happening between 20.00-23.00, so one got to go home early. The feeding is in general good around, so have been trying a bit different places after I had to send the chicken back at Laughing Buddha since it was still a bit bloody around the bones. Do not want that! Asked for vegetarian when I got the new one. :)

Boring, well - just not that used to doing nothing, so I have been telling myself that I am on vacation and that I do not have to do anything all the time. Reading is a good activity, people watching is an interesting activity too, relax and chill out. It is good and warm, got a pool, even got plenty of film on the Ipad if I want to have a quite night without going out for drinks. Very different from being in the Himalayas indeed, and that is what I wanted from my stay in Bali and Flores.

Heading for Labuan Bajo, Flores tomorrow morning, got my ticket for a plane from Transnosa, an other small propeller plane again, but I do not think we land or take off on a hill this time. Look forward to get there, will be a bit more activities in form of diving, and to go for Komodo dragon spotting, the biggest lizard in the world and to top it even poisons. And, hope to meet some people to hang out with there, have been a bit quite here in Ubud, and it is in fact the first days on this trip I am by myself. Ok, but some company would be good too.

Afternoon update of the day, the last one in Ubud. Have been touristy today and visited a few temples. Elephant cave and the temple of holy water, they have some other name for sure, but I do not remember them and are to lazy to look it up. When I went out on the street today I was all about getting a taxi and go to Elephant cave, but for the first time it was a bit hard to find someone offering transport, so I started walking in what I thought would be the way to the Elephant cave. Luckily, after 5-10 minutes it was someone that offered ride, or I believed he was renting out motorbikes, and maybe he did that as well. But it turned out that he also was offering to ride me, so we agreed on a price, to much for sure. I thought I had gotten a driver of a car, but I had gotten a driver of a motorbike, helmet on and off we vent. He took me safe around to the sights that we had agreed on, and was not trying any extra sales on the way. Had a good round-trip in around 3-3,5 hour inkl the stops on the way and some nice driving through some nice rice field as well, price 100 000 rupi (64 NOK), so that was ok. Was good to get out of town for a while as well.

Holy water temple.
